hey there,
my dad saw clannad in belfast's ulster hall way back before i was born and it was the first time they performed harry's game after it had become famous, so it's always special to me when i get up to play in the ulster hall, thinking of who has stood on the same boards as i am. there's a big photo of clannad backstage, it looks very impressive.
does anyone else want to share their clannad experience?

Clannad live memories
I've managed to see them on every tour since 1986. The first time was just after the Macalla album came out in the National Stadium in Dublin. It was one of the first gigs I went to, and I'd been a fan since Harry's Game, so I didn't want to miss it. What stood out most was what great musicians Clannad are - and vocalists. The harmonies were tight and the playing was fantastic. I was so surprised to hear them replicate their sound live. Coinleach Glas An Fhomhair was superb, as was Dúlaman - and it was also the first time that I was given an explanation of each song.
The second time was after Sirius came out - this time in the Olympia Theatre in Dublin. There was great anticipation about this gig - In A Lifetime had been a big hit and the band had just made their big rock record. I'll never forget the lights going down, the red velvet curtains drawing back, and the dry ice flowing off the stage as the band launched into Caislean Óir - really spooked everyone out. The other stand out memory from this gig (apart from it being great) was that I was about 5 rows from the front and there was a young child in the row in front who fell asleep during the quiet numbers, only to wake with a start when the band hit the opening notes to Second Nature.
I was also lucky enough to see them on the PastPresent tour - which was probably my favourite. Playing before Christmas 1989 in the Point Theatre in Dublin, the band were on one of their many commercial highs - the PastPresent compilation had sold large quantities during the year and it was also the final tour for Pól. The set was the best I've seen - opening with the stunning Cumha Eoin Ruadh Ui Neill - just Moya on harp and Pól joining in towards the end with flute. The band played songs from their entire career, with the Robin of Sherwood suite (including Royal and The Dance, both of which I love), and finishing off with live favourites Teigh Abhaile Oru and Dúlaman.
The last time I've seen them was on a brief Irish tour to warm up for the Lore tour - in the Mean Fiddler Dublin. It was a strange choice of venue - all standing with the bar in full operation for the duration of the gig. This didn't help when the band played some of the quieter numbers - I had seen Mary Black there a few weeks previous and part of her terms was that the bar would shut for the duration of the concert. The sound was also terrible - it just bounced around the venue.
I've been lucky enough to see Moya live, just after the Perfect Time album was released in Temple Bar Music Centre. It was a very intimate show, but really enjoyable.
So after a few quiet years I need my Clannad/Moya live fix - I'd really love all five original members to perform together again with just acoustic instruments - no electronics - a really stripped down sound. It would make hearing all the well known material sound so different - just imagine Harry's Game with no keyboards - maybe just a drone from Ciarans double-bass..... God I'd love to produce a Clannad album - Ciaran is you're reading this I have some ideas..... :O)

Clannadconcert 1996
I remember my first Clannad Concert maybe in 1996. I had travelled all the way to Eindhoven and wasn't at all sure what to expect.
I remember standing quite in front of the stage and being totally in awe. This was the band I had been listning for for years. Máire wasn't feeling to well I think. It sounded as if she had a bad cold, but still she was there and wearing a beautiful purple dress. I loved the harpplaying and I remember her singing Gaoth bearra na dtonn. It was my absolute favourite and I was crying as she sang.
Best thing I think was meeting up with the Duggans after the concert. We danced and talked and they told me about Aisling and had an argument about how tall she was! I even got my clannad sheet music signed by the entire band. It was a highlight of my teenyears!

Clannad concert
Hey Grania,
don't be sad. I couldnt go to a Clannad concert, too. It's a pity, but I hope that I can see Clannad anytime live here in Germany. Next year I hope to see Moya live in the Parktheater. When I was there I'll tell you about it, should I?

i hope so too
hello everyone, and thanks for replying!
i've been wondering for a while now what it'd be like to go and see Clannad live. I can't help thinking we're more likely to see the band separately, what with the new "duggan and friends" cd and moyas ever increasinly popular solo tours and aalbums, i'm sorry to think that the last clannad tour may have been and gone.
whatta you think?

I hope a concert is due soon..
Last time I went to see them, was years ago in Cornwall.
The one & only time that I nearly swap hats - now I wish I did..
Lets hope for one last blow of the concert horn.
And just to say to one of the band members (you know who you are) - the hats now free, if you still want it....

Hello everybody, firstly : please excuse my bad english but it is each days ago I learnd it in scool. Nearly 30 Years ago. Ok , I seen Clannad first time in Cologne in the Radiostation . It was when they made the Dullaman LP. I think I was 14 years old , or so. It was the first time I heard Irish Folk. I don´t remember why I was going to this concert. But it was good that I´d gone !! I remember that the audience was very cool in Jeans and Shirts and my mother put me in a brown suit and a tie . It was not very nice. It was awfull. And than they begann to play. It was greatfull. The Song´s from Dllaman are still my favorites. I absolutly can´t understands the words but it is not so bad. The music and the voice are ... how can I say ? Like Paradise. Dreamfull. But I think you now what I mean. I hope I can see than anytime again.

Wonderful times...
I could go on about how amazing Clannad are when playing live, but I guess you all know that or you wouldn't be here, lol!
So just to put things in perspective, here are the 5 greatest nights of my life to date...
1. My first ever Clanned concert.
2. My second Clannad concert.
3. My third Clannad concert.
4. My fourth Clannad concert.
5. My wedding night.
I've only seen Clannad four times...!
